Parent Child Series
Dr. Maria Montessori recognized that tremendous brain, motor, and personality development occurs during the first three years of a child’s life. These observations, once considered revolutionary, are now widely accepted among early childhood professionals and researchers. At Forest Bluff School, we find that many parents are interested in learning more about Dr. Montessori’s theories and her recommendations for very young children.
The Parent Child Program provides an introduction to Montessori education to families with (i) pregnant mothers and/or (ii) young children up to age three. Guided by Dr. Montessori’s work, as well as current research, Lynn Jessen and Paula Preschlack offer a series of lectures and practical sessions each Fall and Spring.
Lectures are offered to all parents of children who are less than three years of age, and focus on key aspects of Montessori theory, such as independence, the development of the hand, and language acquisition. Practical sessions are intended for parents and their children who are less than 18 months of age. During practical sessions, Mrs. Jessen and Mrs. Preschlack work with each parent/child couple, giving developmentally appropriate advice and attending to parent questions and concerns. Home consultations are offered for parents who wish to receive customized suggestions for improving their young child’s home environment.
